Dr. Derek Lambert spent 22 years at sea, leaving with the rank of Chief Engineer (unlimited) to become Head of Program for the Marine Engineering Department at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town in 2012. In 2024, he left this position to form the Cape Town Maritime College.
Derek holds a PhD in Maritime Affairs from the World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden (focusing on blended learning for seafarers).
In addition to classroom tuition, Derek has assisted hundreds of students over the years to prepare for their Level III SAMSA assessment through the oral preparation programs on offer.

With 20 years lecturing experience in shipping law, Ms Leonie Louw has been integral in developing the subject, and preparing countless maritime students for their STCW examinations.
Besides having vast lecturing experience, Leonie was ISO 9001 certification, and in Cape Town Maritime College’s quality assurance officer.
Pulondran Naidoo

With 15 years lecturing experience in Naval Architecture, Pulondran Naidoo has assisted thousands of students to obtain their maritime qualifications.
Before becoming a lecturer, Pulondran served for a decade in the South African Navy, reaching the rank of Lieutenant in the combat branch.
Pulondran is also currently studying towards a MSc Sustainable Maritime Operations.
Henny Boel

Derek will be assisted on the lecturing side of the Marine Engineering Knowledge component by Henny Boel. Henny has a lifetime of serving the maritime industry, and has extensive seagoing and lecturing experience.
For the past 4 years, Henny has been lecturing at a University of Technology, preparing management level students for their STCW examinations.
Henny has now left the formal education sector, and has joined the Cape Town Maritime College.
