Marine Engineering Academic Qualifications 

COURSE INFORMATION & APPLICATION FORMS

UNLIMITED MARINE ENGINEERING QUALIFICATIONS 











In order to qualify to sit a level III  Certificate of Competency (UNLIMITED) oral examination at our maritime authority (SAMSA), the following conditions are required to be met:

(1)  A valid eyesight test, (2) be in possession of the technical subjects component at a NQF level 6 [qualifications obtained outside of South Africa are to be verified by the South African Qualifications Agency (SAQA) www.saqa.org.sa], (3) the maritime subjects component [what we do at CTMC], (4) the required STCW safety courses, (5) workshop completion and (6) the sea time component.


FISHING INDUSTRY MARINE ENGINEERING QUALIFICATIONS
















In order to qualify to sit a level III  Certificate of Competency (FISHING INDUSTRY) oral examination at our maritime authority (SAMSA), the following conditions are required to be met:

(1)  A valid eyesight test, (2) the maritime subjects component [what we do at CTMC], (3) the required STCW safety courses, (4) workshop completion and (5) the sea time component. 



PORT OPERATIONS MARINE ENGINEERING QUALIFICATIONS





















In order to qualify to sit a level III  Certificate of Competency (PORT OPERATIONS) oral examination at our maritime authority (SAMSA), the following conditions are required to be met:

(1)  A valid eyesight test, (2) the maritime subjects component [what we do at CTMC], (3) the required STCW safety courses, (4) workshop completion and (5) the sea time component.

Courses: Engineering Officer of the Watch (Unlimited), Chief Engineering Officer (Unlimited)

Duration: 16 Weeks Course Duration (SAMSA Accredited)

Course Overview: The (UNLIMITED) course is a SAMSA requirement for all Marine Engineering Officers, to be able to sit the level III assessment at the operation (EOW) and management level (2nd and Chief Engineer). The course has been developed to meet the requirements of the SAMSA STA – focusing all aspects of marine engineering at both the operations and the management level. Candidates are required to meet the SAMSA mandated outcomes (of 60%) from written assessments.

Courses: Engineering Officer of the Watch < 750 kW, 2nd Engineering Officer < 2000 kW (Fishing), Chief Engineering Officer < 2000 kW (Fishing)

Duration: EOW (6 Weeks), 2nd Engineer (8 Weeks), Chief Engineer (10 Weeks)

Course Overview: These courses replaced the Motorman 2, Motorman 1 and Motorman Higher Grade courses in South Africa

PORT OPS. - Marine Engineering Courses

Courses: Engineering Officer of the Watch (Port Operations), Chief Engineering Officer < 750 kW (Port Operations), Chief Engineering Officer < 1500 kW (Port Operations)

Duration: EOW (6 Weeks), Chief < 750 kW (8 Weeks), Chief < 1500 kW (10 Weeks)

Course Overview These courses fulfill the Port Operations requirements as detailed by SAMSA for the respective engine capacities.
